Showdown (C64)
A downloadable game
Showdown
Showdown is a 1 or 2-player action shooter for the Commodore 64, released in 2020. The game is inspired by a host of older titles with the same theme, going all the way back to Gun Fight from 1975.
You play a cowboy out to win a fierce gun duel. The first one to outwit and knock down the opponent 5 times is the winner of the duel.
Giddy-up and get ready to fight!
Instructions:
Each gun can carry 5 bullets. You reload by manually replacing the bullets with a click of the joystick button, or you can pick up bullet packs from the ground. But beware! If your opponent catches you out of the safety of the cacti, then you might get knocked down!
Explosive crates appear around the play area. They explode when shot, so better stay away from them if you value you life, cowboy!
The game is best when played with a friendemy. It is a lot of fun to taunt a friend as they hit the ground and you win the Showdown!
F7 can be used to exit the current game and go back to the title screen. Just incase you choose a 2-player game and you friend doesn't show up for the gun duel!
Controls:
Joystick in port 2 for 1-player games.
Download now, for $0 or more, and get ready to fight!
PS! Showdown is also available on cassette by Bitmap Soft! Buy physical cassette here: https://www.bitmapsoft.co.uk/product/showdown/
Works on: Actual C64 hardware, PAL and NTSC, TheC64 Mini and Maxi, C64 emulators for many modern platforms.

Very cute and simple little game. Our German-language review can be found in our recorded livestream starting at 00:36:18. Subscription to our YouTube or Twitch channel is welcome. ๐
Thanks, this brings back memories of the first arcade video game I played and my first Home Computer!
Lovely game ! Thanks and congrats again.
Thank you. Love the video! ๐
Tons of fun, I'm a sucker for westerns. The reloading mechanic is really interesting.
Thank you very much! ๐
I'm half tempted to get this on tape, despite trying to stick to disk and cart. Is the tape single-load? Do the scores save to the tape or externally to disk?
Bitmapsoft did a really nice job with the tape. It is single-load, and has a loading screen and a cover version of Ocean loader 5(?). We put out a video with the loader a little while ago: https://twitter.com/bag_of_hats/status/1459214355980066817
Scores are not saved. ๐ถ
It's probably a good game but i don't know how to open d64 files so :/.
Hi. Sorry about that. I have updated the download&install instructions now.
Basically, if you want to play it on your PC/Mac we recommend using an emulator called VICE. Remember to use the latest version of Vice to get the best emulation.
You can download VICE from http://vice-emu.sourceforge.net/
When you have started VICE, you should be able to drag the d64-file to VICE and it will run the game.
Let me know if you have any more issues! :-)
Wait this is akward.... its like the game that ive been developing...
No way!
Hey. Great game! The graphics look amazing! Well done.
Are you interested in a co-op bundle? I recently finished an update for my game ([DIS] Assemble) and we are making a black friday bundle with another game.
Thank you very much!
Although we would very much like to be part of co-op bundles Showdown is a C64 game, so we prefer it being bundled with C64 (or other retro-system) games. We are working on making a C64 co-op bundle atm
Thank you for the kind request though, and good luck with the bundle!
This looks so cool. I love the graphics
Thank you for the kind words. :)
